Named by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) for Commander Henry Glass, 1844-1908, U.S. Navy (USN), Commander of the Steamship (SS) Wachusett, which made surveys in this area in 1881. Commander Glass rose to Rear Admiral and was Commandant of the Pacific Naval District at the time of his death.
