HistoryNamed by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) in 1888. This name was published as "Zaliv Mokrovskoy," meaning "Wet Bay," by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 14 dated 1792), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN). It also called "Alyukso" in 1802 by Sarichev (v. 2, p. 140). The Aleut name reported by Father Veniaminov (1840, v. 1, p. 165) is "Alyukhsyuk," possibly from the word "Aluik," meaning "viver otter."
