on coast of Bering Sea, 10 mi. N of Hooper Bay, Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
Eskimo name, reported by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1949, meaning "has wood". It is sometimes called "Kokechik Painga" meaning "the mouth of that which has wood." R.H. Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), gave the name Igiak Bay, in 1919, presumably derived from the nearby village called "Igiagamiut" or "Igiayarok."
