on N coast of Seward Peninsula, 30 mi. W of Deering; Kotzebue-Kobuk Low. 16 miles wide.
so named by Lieutenant Otto von Kotzebue while exploring the region in August 1816 because here he had "good hope" of making important geographic discoveries.
