History

Published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1891 Coast Pilot (p. 201). This flat was named by the U.S. Navy for Lieutenant E. P. McClellan, U.S. Navy (USN), who visited the locality in 1880.
