History of Hassler Reef

Named in 1883 by Lieutenant Commander H. E. Nichols, U.S. Navy (USN), (probably for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) ship Hassler), who said the reef is "Probably identical with Brundige Rock" (U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), 1891, p. 74). "Captain Brundige discovered this reef."
