Libellula quadrimaculata, commonly known as the four-spotted chaser, is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae. It is a medium-sized dragonfly, with a wingspan of up to 3 inches (8 cm), and it is also found throughout much of Europe and parts of Asia.

The four-spotted skimmer (or chaser) is a very distinctive species, with males having a bright blue-green thorax and abdomen, four black spots on their wings, and large, bright green eyes. Females are less colorful, with a yellowish-brown body and clear wings.

The species is commonly found near still or slow-moving water, such as ponds, lakes, and streams, where they can be seen perching on plants or flying low over the water. The four-spotted skimmer feeds on a variety of small insects, including mosquitoes, midges, and flies.

Like other dragonflies, the four-spotted skimmer undergoes a complex life cycle, with eggs laid in the water, hatching into aquatic nymphs that live underwater and feed on other aquatic organisms. After a period of development, the nymphs climb out of the water and molt into adult dragonflies.
