Description
Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) are medium sized song birds getting up to 7.5 inches long and can weigh 2.4 ounces. Bohemian Waxwings have gray bodies with a brownish hue, tan color on the heads and tails, black chins and mask, and black outer wings with a yellow bar. They also have a spiked crown. Tails usually get darker towards the end and ending with a yellow bar.
Diet & Habitat
Bohemian Waxwings prefer fruits and insects.
Bohemian Waxwings hangout in taiga but can also be found in coniferous and mixed forests. In summer they're found throughout most of the state south of the Brooks Range. In winter they usually range from Fairbanks to the Alaska Peninsula and southeast.
Breeding
Bohemian Waxwings nest in tree branches usually close to the trunk. Nest are the typical cup nest formed of twigs, grass, moss, and other small fibers that can be weaved. Clutches can have between 2-6 eggs.
